Bagged mix versus ready-mix is a logistics choice
Bagged mix gives a transparent retail material number. It also creates a heavy unloading and mixing job. Use the handling weight and pallet equivalent to decide when to call ready-mix suppliers; compare delivered minimums and short-load charges, not only the per-yard figure.
Regional installed prices move with labor and access
Angi’s April 2026 data places many central-US slab prices near the middle of its national range and coastal markets higher. That is context, not a ZIP quote. A pump, long wheelbarrow path or small-load minimum can matter more than the concrete itself.
What to look for in a contractor quote
Confirm excavation and haul-off, compacted-base depth, reinforcement, forms, thickness, slope, control joints, surface finish, curing, access, pumping, permits and cleanup. A low square-foot price can simply omit half the scope.
What DIY savings do—and do not—remove
DIY removes paid placing and finishing labor. It does not remove material handling, mixer or tool rental, site preparation, inspection requirements or the cost of correcting a poorly timed finish or inadequate subgrade.
Questions before ordering concrete
How is the bagged concrete cost calculated?
The deterministic engine calculates slab volume, divides by the manufacturer’s published yield for 60 lb or 80 lb bags, rounds bags up, and multiplies by the editable low and high bag prices.
Why show total bag weight?
A bagged-mix budget is also a handling decision. A small slab can require several thousand pounds of material, changing delivery, unloading, mixing and whether ready-mix quotes deserve comparison.
What is included in the installed slab range?
The benchmark uses Angi’s April 2026 national $4–$8 per-square-foot range. Actual quotes vary with grading, subbase, reinforcement, finish, access, pumping, permits, demolition and region.
Does this choose reinforcement for me?
No. Dimensions do not reveal loads, soil or local requirements. Project-specific reinforcement remains PENDING unless you explicitly select a fiber-mix surcharge.
